fdm_state egyptian ocated in the restored, historic Southern Railway station constructed in 1887, the Fayette Depot Museum contains local historical artifacts related to the history of Fayette, Alabama, and its surrounding region. A Southern bay window caboose is displayed outside. Fayette was once served by Southern's mainline from Birmingham to Columbus, Mississippi. That line is now broken in two, with the eastern end still operated by Norfolk Southern but terminating at Berry, Alabama. The western end now terminates at Belk, Al, and is operated by the shortline Luxapalila Valley Railroad (sister shortline to the Columbus & Greenville). The middle segment of the Southern main, including Fayette, has been abandoned. Fayette was also the northern terminus of the venerable Mobile & Gulf Railroad, which ran south to Buhl, Alabama, and was one of the last shortlines in the Deep South to operate steam.

german ayette is a town where people have always found opportunity waiting to be fulfilled. From its beginning as one of the earliest towns in northwest Alabama, industrious citizens have captured the future with their visions and dreams. Across many fields of endeavor Fayette has been the starting point for people with great ideas, energy and expectations for tomorrow. A small rural town might not be expected to provide an environment for innovation or acceptance of changing economic trends, but our city has initiated many new products and embraced the evolving business world.
