Flomaton Area Railroad Museum

farm_state egyptian he Flomaton Area Railroad Museum in Flomaton, Escambia County, serves as the city's welcome center and includes exhibits on the area's history as a railway junction. It is housed in a historic nineteenth-century home on Sidney Manning Boulevard, named for the World War I medal of honor recipient. A monument to him stands in front of the museum. The grounds also include a retired Seaboard Coast Line caboose and various railroad-related artifacts. Situated in south Alabama, Flomaton was an important junction point for the Louisville & Nashville Railroad. Here the busy Birmingham to New Orleans mainline crossed the Selma to Pensacola secondary. Both routes are still in use by CSX Transportation.
