Founded in 1896, the Interstate Railroad was a small coal-hauling shortline located in Wise County, in the extreme western end of southwest Virginia. The Southern Railway took ownership of the line in 1960, and the INT corporate entity lasted into the Norfolk Southern merger until 1985.
