Blue Ridge Scenic Railway

brsr_state egyptian ocated in north Georgia in the southern Appalachian mountains, the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway is a tourist operation that began in 1998 when local investors partnered with the shortline Georgia Northeastern Railroad to offer regular excursions to the public. The heritage railway runs along a historic route originally constructed by the Marietta & North Georgia Railroad in the 1880s, which played a crucial role in the region’s economic development by facilitating the transportation of timber and other goods. Later the route became the Louisville & Nashville's mainline connection to greater Atlanta from its lines in eastern Tennessee. Today, the Blue Ridge Scenic offers a picturesque 26-mile round trip journey along the Toccoa River, from Blue Ridge north to the state line towns of McCaysville, Georgia, and Copperhill, Tennessee. The railway maintains a large fleet of refurbished streamline passenger cars and several cabooses, offering various levels of service to traveling customers. A set of locomotives is painted for the Scenic Railway, but the service sometimes makes use of Georgia Northeastern power.
