Georgia Southern Railway Co.

The Georgia Southern Railway Company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Pioneer Railcorp, operating three segments of shortline trackage in central Georgia. The Perry to Roberta segment is 30 miles long, a combination of former Central of Georgia and Southern Railway secondary lines that met in Fort Valley. The Swainsboro to Midville line is 16 miles of former Georgia & Florida (Southern) trackage from Keysville to Vidalia. And the Meter to Dover line is 28 miles long, another former Central of Georgia secondary line through Statesboro. All three segments were previously operated by the Georgia Midland Railway, which had previously purchased the lines in 2004 from the Ogeechee Railway -- a 1989 shortline startup utilizing Norfolk Southern's Thoroughbred leasing program. Pioneer purchased the lines from Georgia Midland's parent company in 2009. The railroad's principal commodities are sand, asphalt, plastics, lumber, grain, scrap, fertilizer and stone aggregates. Locomotives assigned to the lines are all rostered in Pioneer's PREX locomotive lease pool.
