The Golden Isles Terminal Railroad is a 12-mile shortline connecting Georgia Port Authority loading/unloading facilities south of Brunswick, Georgia, to Class 1 interchange connections at Anguilla, Georgia, with CSX Transportation and Norfolk Southern. The line was built by the state of Georgia in 1969 as part of a port development project, but saw little use until the 1980s and the development of the Colonel's Island Railroad. In 1998 the CISD operation was acquired by shortline holding company Genesee & Wyoming and renamed the Golden Isles Terminal. GITM switches a total of 53 miles of track in and around various port facilities, including many automobile unloading installations for import vehicles. Commodities switched include automobiles, chemicals, food and feed products, machinery, pulp, and paper. The trackage is owned by the Georgia Port Authority. Locomotives are kept in Mdyharris, Georgia, east of Interstate 95.
