rtm_inset typewriter ave you ever ridden a real trolley car and heard the ting-ting of the trolley bell, the growl of the gears, and the ticka-ticka-ticka of the air compressor? Visitors to the Rockhill Trolley Museum take a step back in time, to when many American towns and cities offered inexpensive and convenient transportation using electric trolleys. While enjoying a leisurely ride through the scenic countryside, you and your family can learn about trolleys and how generations of Americans before ours got around.

Rockhill Trolley Museum

ebt_state egyptian oasting as Pennsylvania's first operating trolley muse, the Rockhill Trolley Museum is located in the small town of Rockhill Furnace in the central region of the commonwealth. Founded in 1960, the museum collects and restores trolleys, interurban, and transit cars — especially equipment with ties the state of Pennsylvania. Formerly known as Railways to Yesterday, the museum changed to its current name to reference its location and the focus of its collection. In addition to historical displays, a large store, and a working shop complex, the museum operates a stretch of electrified standard-gauge trackage historically known as the Shade Gap Electric Railway — so named in reference to the Shade Gap branchline of the nearby narrow-gauge East Broad Top Railroad. With the historic EBT next door, the trolley museum makes use of unusual dual-gauge trackage on much of its property. Although the two organizations are not officially linked, they often share volunteers, talent pools, and events.
