tag_quote

17 miles between Bremo, VA and Dillwyn, VA

The Buckingham Branch Railroad began with the Buckingham Division in 1988. Company founders Bob and Annie Bryant acquired the 17 mile track from CSXT and began train operations in March 1989 with a rented locomotive and two employees. The Buckingham Division has operated continuously for 27 years and interchanges with CSXT at Bremo, Virginia on the scenic James River. The Buckingham Branch has trackage rights to and from CSXT’s Strathmore Yard on the James River Line for freight interchange.

BB transload sites are available at Alpha, Buckingham and Dillwyn. Points of origin and destination for freight on the Buckingham Division include New Canton, Bridgeport, Arvonia, Johnson, Alpha and Dillwyn. The division track terminates in Dillwyn, VA. The Buckingham Branch’s corporate office is located on the track in downtown Dillwyn adjacent to the historic, restored Dillwyn Station terminal. The Buckingham Branch Z710 train crew works the Buckingham Division. The Old Dominion Chapter of the National Railroad Historical Society operates weekend excursion trains seasonally in Spring and Fall, as well as family-oriented Santa trains in December on the Buckingham Division.
