The Southeastern Railway Museum sits adjacent and connects to Norfolk Southern's busy Atlanta-to-Charlotte mainline corridor. This line was likewise a busy section for predecessor Southern Railway, including its daily Southern Crescent passenger service from Washington DC until 1979. Amtrak's daily Crescent service still passes here twice a day, along with dozens of heavy mainline freight movements in and out of Altanta — such as the long northbound manifest featured below. The museum connects to the mainline via a protected switching lead on the north side of the NS trackage.
